BCG's Head of Social Impact, Wendy Woods, Receives 'Women Leaders' Award
Woods, a Senior Partner at The Boston Consulting Group, Is One of 13 Women Recognized for Outstanding Achievement by Consulting Magazine and One of Four in the Category of 'Excellence in Leadership'
(firmenpresse) - NEW YORK, NY -- (Marketwired) -- 11/13/15 -- Wendy Woods, a senior partner at and global leader of the firm's practice, has received a Women Leaders in Consulting Award from magazine, the industry's premier trade publication. Woods, who is based in Boston, was one of 13 women the magazine recognized last night at a gala dinner at Manhattan's St. Regis hotel and one of four in the category of "Excellence in Leadership."
Joe Kornik, Consulting's editor and publisher, said that the awards, now in their ninth year, had attracted nearly 400 nominations this year. "The quality of the nominations and the accomplishments of the winners continue to grow more impressive," he said. "You're in rare company to get into this room."
"Even though women make up just about a quarter of the consulting profession, their collective impact is significantly larger," he added. "We're honored to be able to shine a light on your accomplishments."
Woods won for her leadership within and outside the firm as an expert in the field of global health, as head of BCG's growing social-sector work, and as a role model to more junior consultants throughout the firm.
As head of the Social Impact practice, Woods is responsible for BCG's work addressing the environment, development, health, education, and social business. She works with multilateral organizations, NGOs, foundations, governments, and businesses and oversees BCG's partnerships with the World Food Programme, Save the Children, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Yunus Social Business, WWF, and Teach For All.
In leading BCG's global health efforts, Woods helps clients develop strategies, form public-private partnerships, improve operational effectiveness, and enhance approaches to delivering health interventions. She has worked on HIV, TB, malaria, diarrheal disease, pneumonia, and oncology issues and across drugs, vaccines, and diagnostics.
Woods is passionate about driving cooperation across organizations and sectors to help solve some of the world's most intractable problems. A she gave in 2013 offered examples of the powerful impact that collective cooperation can have in the social sector.
Last year and early this year, Woods led BCG's pro bono efforts to help the United Nations fight the Ebola crisis -- an engagement that won a Consulting magazine Excellence in Social & Community Investment Award.
"I am honored by this recognition of our work addressing global challenges and focusing on topics that impact some of the most underprivileged in our world," said Woods. "While social-impact projects are obviously a smaller part of the consulting industry than work with commercial clients, this award acknowledges that we can deliver tremendous value to the social sector across topics including health, development, education, the environment, and employment."
Woods is the latest in a series of BCG women to be honored by Consulting for their leadership and impact. Since launching the Women Leaders in Consulting Awards in 2007, the magazine has recognized a total of seven BCGers: , , and for lifetime achievement; and for client service; and and Woods for leadership. In addition, four BCG women have been named to Consulting's annual list of the top 25 most influential consultants.
