Spectraseis Announces Seventh U.S. Patent for LF Seismic Technology
(Thomson Reuters ONE) -
Spectraseis AG / Spectraseis Announces Seventh U.S. Patent for LF Seismic Technology processed and transmitted by Hugin AS. The issuer is solely responsible for the content of this announcement.
A further 14 U.S. and 10 European patents covering key signal processing
techniques are pending
Zurich, Switzerland, October 1, 2010. Spectraseis, the leading provider of low
frequency seismic solutions to the oil and gas industry, today announced that
the US Patent and Trademark Office has issued the seventh notice of allowance
for a Spectraseis patent application. Previously, Spectraseis has been awarded
six US and two European Union (EU) patents with 14 US Patent Applications still
pending at the US Patent and Trademark Office and another 10 applications
pending before the European Patent Office.
The Spectraseis research program continues to make patentable discoveries that
help their customers more efficiently find and produce hydrocarbon reserves. The
issued patents and pending applications cover proprietary technologies that
Spectraseis uses for processing low frequency seismic data as well as tools for
better integration and interpretation with other G&G data for exploration and
development projects.
The patents issued to Spectraseis thus far include methods for hydrocarbon
reservoir mapping, signal analysis, and direct detection of fluid systems within
the earth. In particular, Spectraseis' patented Time Reverse Imaging algorithms
yield remarkable images of subsurface fluid locations in client's exploration
and production properties. TRI images, when integrated with structural
information from conventional seismic surveys, greatly lower exploration risk
and improve knowledge of the fluid system for field development.
The latest applications pending before the US and European patent offices
include Spectraseis' new generation of powerful imaging condition methods that
separate signal from noise to locate fluids in depth.
Rob Habiger, Chief Technology Officer (CTO) at Spectraseis, said:
"Spectraseis' patent position covers the leading edge of LF research, with our
research commitment to developing the best possible signal analysis methods to
extract reservoir associated seismic signals from client data providing
patentable inventions on a regular basis. Spectraseis' comprehensive patent
program provides a clear signal to our existing and prospective customers that
we are committed to providing a complete LF seismic solution that enhances all
G&G data, from efficient acquisition through interpretation and visualization."
David Walker, Intellectual Property (IP) Counsel at Spectraseis, said:
"Spectraseis' IP strategy is to acquire a valuable, protected position in LF
seismic technologies by quickly converting our scientists' discoveries into
defensible patents, in order to provide our customers with a sustainable
competitive advantage. Our steadily growing patent portfolio is a testament to
the success of Spectraseis' research and development effort, which we expect
will continue to yield patentable new breakthroughs in geophysical data
processing and acquisition techniques".

About Spectraseis
Spectraseis is the principal technology and service provider in the
fast-emerging field of Low Frequency (LF) seismic geophysical surveys and data
analysis. Spectraseis helps oil and gas companies reduce risk and more
efficiently find and produce hydrocarbon reserves by providing new subsurface
information. In 2009 Spectraseis received the annual Swiss Economic Award in the
category high-tech/biotech. In October 2007, Spectraseis won the 2007 World Oil
Award for Best Exploration Technology.
Broad adoption of the company's technology by the global oil and gas exploration
and production industry can be expected to save billions of dollars each year
which is currently expended on non-productive exploration surveys and dry wells,
as well as improve the industry's environmental performance.
