Ceramic Polymer: Durable corrosion protection and weathering resistance for extensive sheet pile construction (1.800 sqm)

(firmenpresse) - Hamburg/Germany: A wholesale trader for frozen foods and canteen kitchen technics has built an extensive sheet pile construction as surrounding of its new warehouse, which is under process. The company „Strahl- & Sanierungstechnik GmbH & Co. KG“, located in Wildenhorst/Germany, coated the sheet piles with Ceramic Polymer products for the reliable protection against corrosion and weathering.
Project: New coating of a huge sheet pile construction
•Object: Sheet piles and cover profiles, ca. 500 m long and 1,75 m to 5 m high
•Area: ca. 1.800 sqm
•Coating products: PROGUARD 96 and PROGUARD 169

•Completion: from May to July 2015
After installation, the new, unprotected steel sheet piles were already heavily corroded. To prepare these surfaces for the application of the coating, the metal was accurately blasted according to cleanliness level SA 2,5. Now the protective coating could be applied by airless spraying method.
The base product for high protection against corrosion and abrasion, PROGUARD 96, was applied in a thickness of ca. 160 µm. One single layer is sufficient for a complete and durable protective function.
The polyurethane topcoat PROGUARD 169 provides long-term weather-resistance and UV-stability. The customer chose the special color DB 703 MIO (micaceous iron ore). This 1-layer system was applied with a dry thickness of ca. 90 µm.

PROGUARD 96 is a 2-component ceramic composite epoxy coating. This product features high resistances to corrosion and abrasion as well as extreme impact hardness. It is excellently qualified as base coating for external applications in outmost aggressive environments, particularly against alkaline influences. For hydraulic steel structures with high strains of water, salt and de-icing salt PROGUARD 96 is the ideal choice.
PROGUARD 169 is a 2-component highly-crosslinked polyurethane coating. The topcoat provides long lasting resistances against UV-radiation and weather conditions. Furthermore, PROGUARD 169 offers excellent color stability and abrasion resistance. This product is applied in one layer and cures fast. It also features a high chemical resistance, thus besides typical scopes it is even used in very aggressive environments.
