Special slings as well as RFID-based inspections and inventories create added value for the offshore industry
For more than 140 years, RUD Ketten has produced slings for use, predominantly, in industry and transport. With each step forward, the components, such as chains, hooks and lifting points, are increasing in size and becoming more powerful in terms of permissible load capacity. Therefore, the chain system expert is always asking which applications require the most powerful slings. The answer brings us to the offshore industry. ?During the construction and operation of offshore platforms for energy generation, construction and plant components weighing several hundreds of tons have to be safely transported and lifted within an offshore environment ? a perfect scenario for our slings?, Michael Smetz and David Jaramillo, RUD Ketten, in interview with ?RFID im Blick?.
RUD-ID ? Suitable for the Harshest Environments
It is clear even to a layman that harsh environments require robust solutions when it comes to using sustainable technology in offshore environments. A high salt content in the air, salty sea water, storms and extreme temperatures will have a significant impact on every solution and component. ?RUD hardware ? both the slings as well as the RFID solution RUD-ID ? is ideal for use in the harshest conditions. Even when exposed to massive forces, the captive miniaturised transponder that is pressed into a lifting point hole, for example, measuring only four millimetres in diameter, is non-detachable and provides durable tagging. During development, we deliberately put hooks with pressed-in transponders in salt water for weeks to corrode to such an extent that the hooks were absolutely ruined ? but every one of the transponders was still readable.

?RUD hardware ? the slings as well as the RFID solution RUD-ID ? is ideal for use in harsh conditions. The RUD-RFID solution ensures the durable tagging of slings in the offshore industry.?
