Quebec Government Drops Air Canada Public Participation Act Litigation

(firmenpresse) - TORONTO, ONTARIO -- (Marketwired) -- 02/17/16 -- "We are astounded by the Quebec government decision regarding the former-Aveos workers in their plight to get their jobs back," said a dejected IAM Canadian General Vice President Dave Ritchie.

Ritchie was reacting to an announcement today that the Government of Quebec has agreed to discontinue its litigation related to the Air Canada Public Participation Act. "As a result the 2,600 members in Montreal, Mississauga, Winnipeg and Vancouver continue to suffer," added Ritchie.

The Quebec and the Manitoba governments took the airline to court stating it violated the Act and the heavy maintenance work should be returned to Canada. In December 2015, the Quebec Court of Appeal ruled that the airline had contravened the Act. "We have yet to hear a response from the Manitoba government on what action it will take," said Ritchie.

"However, I'm very pleased with Air Canada's decision to buy the C series, it's exactly the kind of sale that program needed," explained Ritchie. "But I have no doubt the Quebec and Manitoba governments would have been successful in this litigation."
