Geneva, 19 October 2010. At the request of the European Commission, Daniel
Weder, CEO of the Swiss air navigation service provider skyguide, is joining the
newly created expert committee chaired by EU Transport Commissioner Siim Kallas.
The Aviation Platform will meet for the first time on 20 October 2010 in
Brussels.
The platform was established as a result of the ash cloud crisis in the spring
of 2010 and is intended to help coordinate future measures with a direct impact
on European aviation, such as national airspace closures, across the whole of
Europe. In addition, the committee will advise the EU Commission, for example on
evaluating future challenges and on the long-term strategic direction of the
aviation sector, with the aim of increasing the competitiveness of the European
aviation industry over the longer term. The Aviation Platform is made up of 16
representatives of the European aviation industry.
Daniel Weder was appointed CEO of skyguide in October 2007. He is also chair of
the strategic board of air navigation service providers in the Functional
Airspace Block Europe Central, FABEC. Before joining skyguide, Daniel Weder held
several positions at SWISS. Most recently he was managing director of airport
services and operation steering.
