Tieto commended for climate change disclosure
(Thomson Reuters ONE) -
Tieto Corporation PRESS RELEASE 26 October 2010 at 9.00 am EET
Tieto, the leading IT services provider in Northern Europe, has been commended
by Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), representing 534 institutional investors,
for its commitment to climate change disclosure. Tieto has received a high score
in the CDP´s annual Nordic 200 report with special recognition for significantly
increasing its score compared to the previous year. The recognition is a result
of Tieto's steady, continuous sustainability work, which includes investments in
environmentally friendly, state-of-the-art data centres as well as efficient
collaboration and communication tools for Tieto's employees and customers.
The Nordic 200 Report highlights those companies in the Nordic stock exchanges
that have displayed a highly professional approach to governance in respect of
climate change disclosure practices. Companies are scored on their climate
change disclosure and high scores indicate good internal data management and
understanding of climate change related issues affecting the company.
Tieto's Green IT management framework embraces offices, data centres and digital
workplaces for employees as well as green technology procurement guidelines. The
company also has a large number of sustainable IT offerings for its customers.
"I'm very proud of CDP's recognition for Tieto's sustainability work. We are now
taking the next steps by enhancing our customer-focused offerings with cloud,
consulting and sustainability intelligence services. Green IT has expanded from
being re-active to pro-active and today provides companies and societies with
excellent opportunities to monitor, manage and report operational performance in
a sustainable way," says Hannu Syrjälä, President and CEO, Tieto Corporation.
Paul Dickinson, Chief Executive of the Carbon Disclosure Project, comments:
"The Carbon Disclosure scoring recognizes companies that demonstrate good
internal data management practices for understanding greenhouse gas emissions,
including energy use. Companies with high CDP score have also demonstrated clear
consideration of how climate change is impacting their businesses now and in the
future. As companies' understanding of climate change issues grows, they are
better prepared to manage and mitigate climate change risks."
