Youth Sentenced for Terrorism

(firmenpresse) - MONTREAL, QUEBEC -- (Marketwired) -- 04/06/16 -- Today, in the Court of Quebec, Youth Division, a 16-year-old was sentenced to a two-year custody and supervision order plus 12 months of probation under the Youth Criminal Justice Actfor two terrorism offences. The sentence is to be served consecutively to the sentence he is already serving for related criminal offences prosecuted by the province of Quebec.
On December 17, 2015, he was found guilty of committing an offence for the benefit of, at the direction of, or in association with, a terrorist group, contrary to s.83.2 of the Criminal Code, and attempting to leave Canada to participate in the activities of a terrorist group, contrary to s.83.181.
The youth, who cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, was 15 years old at the time of the offences.
The Public Prosecution Service of Canada is responsible for prosecuting offences under federal jurisdiction in a manner that is free of any improper influence and that respects the public interest. The PPSC is also responsible for providing prosecution-related advice to law enforcement agencies across Canada.
