Metro appoints new Executive Vice Presidents

Metro International S.A. ("Metro" or "the Group"), the international newspaper
group, today announced that it has appointed new Executive Vice Presidents
(EVPs) for the Group. The new EVPs include Maggie Samways, Global Editor-in-
Chief; Johanna Öberg, Group Sales Director; and Peter Holmlund, Managing
Director of Global Online.
Ms. Samways started at Metro in 2003 as page editor, moved on to a news editor
and subsequently became Editor-in-Chief for Metro US. Following a period at the
New York Daily News, Ms. Samways returned to Metro International to serve as
Global Editor-in-Chief. Ms. Samways has played an instrumental role in the
development of Metro World News, the Group's central newsdesk. Ms. Samways and
her team have delivered unique content to Metro's local newspapers around the
globe, for example interviews with world leaders and celebrities.
Ms. Öberg joined Metro in August last year and has since been engaged in
developing sales on the global level, first as Sales Director for the Travel
segment and later as Group Sales Director. As such Ms. Öberg is responsible for
sharing best sales practices and securing that local sales departments have
best-in-class sales tools. Ms Öberg has a proven record in marketing and sales
from the media industry, latest from MTG.
Mr. Holmlund re-joined Metro in February as Managing Director for the Global
Online Division. Since then Mr. Holmlund has been developing Metro's strategy to
create a successful and profitable online business moving forward. Mr. Holmlund
has extensive experience from the online media industry with a background in the
Schibsted group and most recently Microsoft, as Executive Producer for MSN
Sweden.
