(Thomson Reuters ONE) - Rieber & Søn's sales 3.5% up in second quarter with operating profitsof NOK 55m.- It is especially gratifying to report an enhanced performance inCentral and Eastern Europe, says CEO Patrik Andersson.The accounts for the first half-year show operating profits of NOK151m, while the operating margin was 4.4% in the second quarter and6.0% in the first half-year. The weaker currency in Norway, the CzechRepublic and Poland against the Euro and the US dollar has increasedthe cost of Rieber & Søn's imports of raw materials and packaging.Ensuring lasting improvementsRieber & Søn has implemented a programme aimed at providing lastingimprovements in results of NOK 400m in 2012. The extra consumption ofresources of a one time nature in order to realise these improvementsis estimated to cost NOK 125m. So far, the programme has providedpositive effects totalling NOK 19m, and a corresponding amounts incosts.- The programme is progressing as planned and we will be able topresent greater positive effects in our next interim report, saysAndersson.Increased efficiencyAs part of the improvement programme, projects are underway at theplants in Arna (Norway) and Bysice (the Czech Republic), which willprovide lasting cost reductions of around NOK 50m on a whole-yearbasis.- A large part of this will be achieved through better planning andmore efficient work methods.
