Dr. Robert B. Pamplin Jr. Announces Pamplin Historical Park's Summer Tour Series Visit to Lee and Grant Command Sites

(firmenpresse) - PETERSBURG, VA -- (Marketwired) -- 05/31/16 -- announces continuation of the popular Summer Tour Series on Saturday, June 18 with the tour "Lee and Grant Under Fire." This caravan tour visits the command sites of Robert E. Lee and Ulysses S. Grant during the last days of the Petersburg Campaign. The program will be led by park ranger and historian Edward Alexander and departs from The National Museum of the Civil War Soldier at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, June 18.

This caravan driving tour will examine the different ways that commanding generals Grant and Lee focused their energies while under enemy fire during the events of the Breakthrough of April 2, 1865. Visits will be made to Grant's temporary headquarters at the Banks House and the site of Lee's permanent headquarters at Edge Hill. The tour will also visit Fort Gregg and the Dimmock Line to highlight the generals' decisions and actions during this decisive battle.

"Pamplin Historical Park features some of the best-preserved original Civil War fortifications in the nation and the Summer Tour Series will give guests a unique perspective on the battle, army strategies and the individuals who fought," said Pamplin. "The visit to the Lee and Grant command sites will offer history lovers the opportunity to gain greater insight into this significant time in our nation's history."

This installment of the Summer Tour Series is free for Park Members and is included with Park admission for walk-in visitors. The car caravan departs from The National Museum of the Civil War Soldier at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, June 18. Regular Park admission is $12.50 for adults, $11.50 for seniors and $7.50 for children ages 6-12.
