(firmenpresse) - SYDNEY, NOVA SCOTIA -- (Marketwired) -- 06/03/16 -- On behalf of the Honourable Dominic LeBlanc, Minister of Fisheries, Oceans and the Canadian Coast Guard, the Honourable Mark Eyking, Member of Parliament for Sydney-Victoria, today announced over $32 million in infrastructure investments for the Canadian Coast Guard College in Sydney, Nova Scotia.

Work will soon begin on a multi-year project to replace the college's mechanical and sprinkler systems, which will contribute to reducing energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 20%.

Under the Federal Infrastructure Initiative, an additional $1.7 million was announced in Budget 2016, which will be invested in upgrades and repairs that will improve safety and security, and contribute to additional green technology. These projects include the installation of solar heaters, new high efficiency boilers, and improvements to fire roads and emergency exits. The college's roof replacement will be completed this year, an investment of $8.6 million announced last year.

This announcement builds on recent investments at the college including upgrades to the electrical system and the modernization of the Marine Communications and Traffic Services Centre.
