New Plastics Solutions for Megatrends
3M Advanced Materials at the K trade fair, Hall 5, Booth B10

(PresseBox) - When the international plastics industry meets at the K trade fair in Düsseldorf from 19 to 26 October, 3M Advanced Materials division will present its plastic solutions for the future. Fluoropolymers and Glass Bubbles make a valuable contribution to the implementation of global megatrends such as energy saving and lightweight construction.
The generation and storage of renewable energy is a subject that is moving science, politics and business all over the world. The multi technology company 3M with its subsidiary Dyneon has developed multiple solutions for the megatrend area of "energy storage".
Fluoropolymers in fuel cells
In case of power cuts caused by natural catastrophes such as hurricanes or ice storms, fuel cells provide a valuable service as an energy backup. Fluoropolymers can live up to the unique and aggressive chemical and temperature conditions in a fuel cell, while providing specialized electro-chemical properties, thereby increasing their performance and extending their lifetime.
Fluorothermoplastics in batteries
3M materials are also used in batteries: As a binding agent, 3M Dyneon Fluoroplastic THV extends the lifetime of batteries. That is an important achievement for the automotive industry, among others, especially since the high performance plastic offers very good barrier properties and withstands very high temperatures.
Glass Bubbles for plastic lightweight applications
Lightweight construction in cars and aircraft is currently a trend because it leads to a reduction in CO2 emissions. 3M Glass Bubbles iM16k are used to reduce the weight of plastic components. A weight saving of up to 30 percent is possible depending on the component and the plastic used. This is ensured by the low density of the small, evenly formed hollow microspheres.
Visitors of the K trade fair can obtain detailed information about the plastic solutions from 3M Advanced Materials on booth B10 in hall 5. Application examples will also be on display there.
