(firmenpresse) - SANTA CLARA, CA -- (Marketwired) -- 08/09/16 -- Highlighting the adaptive architecture of Fibre Channel that according to market research firm Dell'Oro, has more than 46 million installed ports in operation in the world's leading datacenters, the (FCIA) is conducting its first public demonstration of NVM Express® (NVMe) over Fabrics using Fibre Channel this week in booth #828 at the in Santa Clara, California.

"Fibre Channel has been the most reliable and trusted high-speed storage network technology as proven by the more than 107 Million ports shipped into datacenters since its inception," said Mark Jones, president and chairman of the board, FCIA, and director, Technical Marketing and Performance, Broadcom Limited. "Customers can now utilize their investments in Fibre Chanel to transport NVMe over Fibre Channel concurrently with existing SAN traffic while reducing storage latencies by as much as 55 percent."

FCIA's NVMe over Fibre Channel demonstration will showcase a number of proof points that illustrate why Fibre Channel is the right choice for transporting NVMe over Fabrics:

Fibre Channel Latency reduction of over 55 percent

Multi-Protocol storage area network (SAN) communication that eases data mobility between existing FC storage resources and NVMe over FC storage

Concurrent NVMe and SCSI traffic managed using existing Fibre Channel fabric resources

Tools to build the NVMe datacenter -- NVMe over Fibre Channel traffic capture and NVMe decoding

The FCIA is also hosting Session 303-E at Flash Memory Summit on titled "Your Data Center: Who, What, Where, When, and Why?" Moderated by J Michel Metz, R&D engineer for the Office of the CTO, Cisco and board member, FCIA, a panel of experts will examine how NVMe fits into the datacenter using popular storage networking protocols.

"Fibre Channel is a widely-used standard for connecting enterprise all-flash arrays over a fabric," said , founder StorageIO and FCIA panelist. "It's a great infrastructure to connect NVMe flash arrays, enabling customers to leverage their existing storage fabric investments."

The Fibre Channel Industry Association (FCIA) is a non-profit international organization whose sole purpose is to act as the independent technology and marketing voice of the Fibre Channel industry. We are committed to helping member organizations promote and position Fibre Channel, and to providing a focal point for Fibre Channel information, standards advocacy, and education. FCIA members include manufacturers, system integrators, developers, vendors, industry professionals, and end users. Our member-led working groups and committees focus on creating and championing the Fibre Channel technology roadmaps, targeting applications that include data storage, video, networking, and storage area network (SAN) management.
