How to Decide What to Take When Moving to St Lucia

How to Decide What to Take When Moving to St Lucia

ID: 490517

For those relocating to St Lucia, deciding on what to bring with you poses a real challenge. Find out how to choose what to ship and what to leave behind.

(firmenpresse) - Relocating to St Lucia will mark the beginning of a new and exciting chapter in your life. Amidst all the excitement and preparation, it can be difficult to sit down and decide what to take with you to the island, and what to leave behind. There will be both practical and sentimental possessions that you will want to keep close to hand, but the big move is also the opportunity to shed clutter. And don’t forget, there will be items that are not necessary for your new sunny and laid-back Caribbean lifestyle.

I have helped many people to relocate here; this is what I would recommend to anyone who is beginning to stress over their shipment.

International Removals

Before sifting through all your belongings, it is worth finding a top international removals firm. They have a huge responsibility in shipping your worldly possessions to a new country, so you will want to find a company that has a great reputation. You ought to do this well in advance so that they can carry out a pre-move survey. What’s more, by arranging the removals early, it also allows you to ship your possessions by sea rather than air (much cheaper). I highly recommend looking at customer reviews on the firm’s website to gauge whether or not they provide a quality service. In most cases, the company will do the packing for you. This can massively reduce stress and ensure everything is packed properly and within regulations.

What to Pack

Generally speaking, you should pack belongings which are expensive, hard to replace or have sentimental value. Items that you use every single day will also be worth packing. Clothes, appliances, some furniture, family heirlooms and photos are what make up the main bulk of what people ship when relocating to St Lucia. As a side note, your electrical appliances will still work, but a plug adapter will be required.

What to Leave

You certainly do not need all of your possessions on the island, so consider leaving some possessions behind for a fresh start and as not to clutter your new home. Also, remember that you will be able to purchase everything that you need here (and likely for a cheaper price). Crockery, cutlery, certain furniture and home goods, in general, are best left behind and replaced when you arrive. This is also a great way to minimise the shipment and reduce your rate.

Selling Items

One of my top tips that I always recommend to those relocating is to sell what they plan on leaving behind. This ensures that the belongings do not go to waste, plus it is a fantastic way to raise funds before setting off. You could then use the money to replace the items here, or simply spend on yourself once you begin this exciting new Caribbean chapter.

It can be incredibly difficult trying to decide what to take with you and what to leave behind when relocating to St Lucia. This is an area in which I have a wealth of knowledge, so don’t hesitate to give me a call to discuss the matter.
