StoneGate IPS Ranks High in Value Purchase in Latest NSS Labs Comparative Test Report

StoneGate IPS-1205 provides best price for Mbps-protected
Helsinki, Finland - 13 January 2011- Stonesoft, an innovative provider of
integrated network security and business continuity solutions, today announced
its StoneGate(TM) IPS-1205 and IPS-3205 intrusion prevention system (IPS)
appliances were rated excellent in value purchase according to the latest
Network Intrusion Prevention System Comparative Test Report from NSS Labs, Inc.
Both appliances ranked in the top three in their respective performance
categories for best price per Mbps protected and total cost of ownership (TCO)
per real world throughput.
NSS Labs issues summary product guidance based on evaluation criteria that is
important to information security professionals. Ratings were awarded based on
the product's security effectiveness, resistance to evasion, simplicity of
management and value, i.e. low TCO and high effectiveness and performance
rankings. Published on 31 December 2010, this report includes the results of
extensive evaluations of 13 Network IPS products from 11 vendors. Stonesoft IPS
appliances received Neutral rating from NSS Labs, indicating that they performed
reasonably well and should continue to be used if it is the incumbent within an
organization. Products that earn a Neutral rating from NSS Labs deserve
consideration during the purchasing process.
High Ranking for Value Purchase
Stonesoft's StoneGate IPS-1205 and IPS-3205 appliances were rated excellent in
value purchase.
"It can be seen from the NSS Labs test results that StoneGate IPS appliances
IPS-1205 and IPS-3205 ranked in the top-3 in both in the best price per Mbps-
protected and TCO per real-world throughput in their respective performance

According to the NSS Labs test report, in the sub-gigabit category, the
StoneGate IPS-1205 provided the best price per Mbps-protected:
"At only $133 per Protected-Megabit, the Stonesoft 1205 provides the best price
per Mbps-protected in the sub-gigabit category and is an excellent value
purchase for enterprises looking to protect DMZs and datacenters."
In the high-end appliance category, the StoneGate IPS-3205 had the 2(nd) lowest
3-year TCO:
"At only $62 per Protected-Megabit, the Stonesoft 3205 is an excellent value
purchase for enterprises looking to protect DMZs and datacenters."
Excellent ease of use
Stonesoft's appliances were also recognized for their extremely intuitive and
easy to use management centers:
"Stonesoft's Management Center builds on its firewall management and is

is simple and efficient. It took almost no time to setup, configure and tune."
100 Percent Protection Against Evasions
On the heels of Stonesoft's recent discovery of advanced evasion techniques
(AETs), evasion detection and prevention has become a major area research and
development at Stonesoft. While NSS Labs did not test against AETs, the
StoneGate IPS-1205 and IPS-3205 successfully handled 100 percent of NSS Labs'
traditional evasion attempts without error.
During Q3 2010, NSS Labs tested leading IPS solutions as an update to their Q4
2009 test. The test included a total of 1,179 unique exploits, whereas NSS Labs
retired 92 attacks and added 112 new exploits as compared with the 2009 IPS
Group Test. In addition, the test included a new and increasingly important
evasion category: HTML evasions. According to the test report, HTML evasions
represent the fastest growing threat to enterprises.
