The following information has been extracted from the Midas Letter Alert:
Iron Ore deposits are now the target of major steel producers who seek to gain
leverage in future price negotiations with suppliers of iron ore to their
furnaces, and to develop their own supply alternatives.
The race for the world's remaining large raw metals deposits is now underway,
and despite iron ore's rank as the fourth most abundant element in the earth's
crust, there is a race on to gain control of large deposits. One of the primary
risks of investing in iron ore is that because it is so abundant in the earth's
crust, supply volumes could theoretically ramp up quickly to meet growing
demand, which could have the effect of snuffing out this booming market in iron
ore. So while these nascent opportunities are still achieving hundred million
dollar valuations relatively easily, one must keep an eye on the news and the
charts for any sign that this trend could reverse itself.
But for the foreseeable future, prices are likely to exceed US$200 per tonne.
Peter Richardson, chief metals economist at Morgan Stanley in Sydney, said in a
note that 2011 and 2012 were expected "to be very positive" for iron ore miners,
adding that the ore market would fall short of supplies until mid-2013.
James West stated, "With the stampede of mining entrepreneurs rushing to
organize iron ore focused companies, Cap Ex is one of the best examples of an
early opportunity that has above average potential for near term share price
appreciation thanks to the location of its projects."
