OP-Pohjola Group's Doctoral Thesis Award to Henri Nyberg
(Thomson Reuters ONE) -
Studies on Binary Time Series Models with Applications to Empirical Economics
and Finance, the doctoral dissertation by Henri Nyberg, Dr.Soc.Sc., won the
first prize in OP-Pohjola Group's Research Foundation's Doctoral Thesis
competition. The award is worth 10,000 euros.
In his doctoral dissertation, Nyberg analyses interrelations between
macroeconomics and financial markets, especially the dependence of stock-return
and interest-rate movements on economic cycles and the effect of the macro
economic situation on stock prices. Developing new statistical methods occupies
a key role in the dissertation. In fact, its greatest merits lie in the
development of methodologies and expert implementation.
The award-winning doctoral dissertation was approved in the spring term 2010 at
the Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Helsinki, with the grade "eximia
cum laude approbatur". It consists of four research reports and their summary.
Based on their own qualifier process, universities entered five doctoral
dissertations for the Research Foundation's competition organised for the ninth
time in a row. The Board of the OP-Pohjola Group Research Foundation selects the
winner.
