World-leading chipset manufacturer chooses Scalado SpeedTags(TM) to
enhance mobile image capture and
(Thomson Reuters ONE) - Lund, Sweden, 28 August 2009 - Scalado, the leader in mobile imagingsoftware solutions, has today announced that its ScaladoSpeedTags(TM) technology is to be integrated with the MobileApplication Processors being developed by Renesas Technology Corp., aworld-leading chipset manufacturer. Scalado SpeedTags(TM), a powerfulsolution which provides accelerated image capture and management forcamera phones, will be integrated with Renesas' processors in orderto deliver enhanced high-quality multi-megapixel mobile imaging, andto help end users to manage the larger files produced by thehigh-resolution image sensors.Renesas is one of the world's largest manufacturers of semiconductorsystems for mobile phones and automotive applications. Based inTokyo, the company currently has manufacturing, design and salesoperations in 16 countries and is the world's largest manufacturer ofmicrocontrollers and the second largest manufacturer of applicationprocessors.Implementation of SpeedTags into Renesas' powerful next generationSH-Mobile application processor will support the use of Scalado'sCAPS(TM) imaging suite, a powerful solution which is focused onproviding enhanced functionality to camera phones, whilst also pavingthe way for further integration with other Renesas technologies inthe future. As a result, users can expect increased performance anddata handling capabilities for high resolution files that willdramatically improve the experience of viewing images on a mobiledevice.Renesas already has good relationships with first tier handsetvendors, and Renesas' SH-Mobile is used in a lot of handsets fromsuch vendors. With powerful partners like these Renesas will giveScalado the opportunity for greater penetration within both new andexisting markets."This is a very important deal which will certainly lead to superiorperformance and features in camera phones, thereby increasingScalado's market penetration in this area," says Fadi Abbas,Co-founder, and Interim CMO/CSO at Scalado. "By working together, ourtwo companies can deliver outstanding results for capturing editingand viewing images on-the-go, including zero shutter lag, burst mode, astonishing auto panorama capturing, and other refined features."With the benefit of Scalado SpeedTags, end-users can instantlycapture multi-megapixel images without any "shutter lag", therebyfreezing the exact moment of capture. Until now, only advancedDigital Still Cameras (DSC) and Single Lens Reflex (SLR) cameras havebeen capable of managing the delay between pressing the capturingbutton and actually saving the captured image. As a result, 'shutter lag' has typically been one of the biggesttechnical challenges facing camera phones, especially whenphotographing moving objects. However, with Scalado's groundbreaking'zero shutter lag' technology, camera phone users can be sure thatthe image which they see in the viewfinder is the image that theycapture. Users can then instantly zoom into the resulting JPEG imagesto review the details of the image in real-time."With the benefits of Scalado's mobile imaging technologies, Renesaswill be able to respond to some of the critical challenges set by theconstantly increasing resolution sizes and megapixels of images,"said Hideaki Chaki, Managing Officer and General manager of SystemSolution Business Unit2 at Renesas Technology Corp. "As a result ofthis agreement, we have confidence that our Mobile ApplicationProcessor will now have a much stronger presence in camera phonemarket. Together with Scalado, we are looking forward to taking theend-user experience to a new level, and to making a real impact inthe global mobile imaging market."According to the latest report from Research and Markets, cameraphones have become key products for mobile phone vendors, and cameraphone shipment volume grew an additional 10% in 2008. The share ofmobile phones equipped with camera modules already exceeded 70% in2008. As such, global camera phone handset revenues expected togrow to over $120 Billion by 2011, when one- third of the worldpopulation will own a camera phone.<
