Heijmans to provide structural works and technical installations for Wageningen UR (University and Research Centre).

Heijmans Building has been commissioned by Wageningen UR (University & Research
Centre) to build the new Orion educational building. The new development
concerns a combined integral contract for the structural, as well as the
technical installations. Heijmans' subsidiary Burgers Ergon will build the
technical installations, while Heijmans Non-residential Building will look after
the structural component. The contract value amounts to approximately ? 40
million.
The building consists of laboratories, classrooms, offices and restaurant
facilities. The total floor area is 21,000 m(2). Construction will start in the
near future and is expected to be completed at the end of 2012. The new
development will be equipped with a heat/cold storage installation with concrete
core activation. This will contribute to the development of a sustainable
building.
Qualitative aspects, such as the detailed work plan, schedule, risk management
plan and presentation counted for over half during the contract award phase.
Contract award was therefore partly based on price and partly on quality.
Heijmans in particular performed well in terms of the qualitative aspects, and
consequently distinguished itself.
