Heijmans and Burgers Ergon to renovate Data Centres for the tax and customs administration

Heijmans' subsidiary Burgers Ergon bv Technical Services will be undertaking the
renovation of the Tax and Customs Administration's Data Centres in Apeldoorn
under contract to the Netherlands Government Building Agency. Heijmans Non-
residential Building will look after the structural component. The contract for
the integral engineering and realization is valued at over ? 47 million.
The design & construct contract comprises the renovation of two separate data
centre locations. This involves the new development of a technology building
with redundant energy and cold generation and the replacement of other building
installations in the data rooms. In the existing building, which will be
provided with an additional floor, the same electrical and mechanical
engineering installations will be implemented.
Key objectives within this multidisciplinary renovation project are to ensure
reliable installations and the continuity of the Tax and Customs
Administration's primary processes. The integral approach adopted by Burgers
Ergon and Heijmans Non-residential Building will reduce any inconvenience to a
minimum and prevent disruption to logistics movements during construction. In
brief: it will be work as usual during the construction phase.
The quality aspect was a major criterion during contract award. This is a
recurring theme in the detailed work plan, the risk management plan and the
organization of the renovation process. Engineering work will commence shortly
and the project is to be completed at the end of 2013.
