‘Variety’s the Very Spice of Life’: Aromatic Chocolates

‘Variety’s the Very Spice of Life’: Aromatic Chocolates

From chilli to chai; expert chocolate suppliers give a run-down of the most inventive brands adventurously combining spices and confectionery.

(firmenpresse) - As chocolate suppliers, we have our fingers on the pulse when it comes to trends in confectionery. Here at HQ we’ve noticed that consumers’ palettes are changing. We are all becoming bolder and more adventurous when we choose our sweet treats – we look for high-quality and flavour that packs a punch. Some spices, like ginger, are common in sugary delights; however, chocolatiers are reaching for more exotic spices nowadays such as chilli and chai.

Now is the time to be brave and consider some of our exciting aromatic and fiery products.

Some Like It Hot

Though not traditional in Britain, the combination of chilli and chocolate is an ancient one. Thankfully, the fashion for experimental and bold flavours has brought this exotic combination in to our stores. As chocolate suppliers, we are always on the lookout for top-quality confectionery. Madécasse’s cinnamon and chilli bar is made with 63% cacao, Ceylon cinnamon and sakay chilli pepper. This bar is warm and intensely satisfying, but don’t just take my word for it – it won a Great Taste Award in 2013!

When Life Gives You Lemons…

When life gives me lemons I might be tempted to make lemonade. Thankfully, we are chocolate suppliers and not creators! Mi & Cu choose to use their lemons to make jasmine and cardamom with lemon chocolates.

The brand’s ‘creative’ range evokes the textures and flavours of the Mediterranean. These are a great choice if you are unsure of the more fiery-flavoured products available. In these treats light, refreshing tastes of citrus and floral jasmine are delicately contrasted with the spicy kick of cardamom. A real delight.

Fancy a Cuppa?

We are a nation known for its love of tea, but these days it’s not your basic breakfast that is getting the Brits excited. Whether its green, iced or in a beautiful Instagram picture, the flavour potential of tea is being explored creatively in both drinks and edible treats.

A herbal Indian tea which has been taking the world by storm is Masala Chai. Dolfin’s Masala Chai mini bar combines delicious milk chocolate with a sophisticated chai mix; ginger, pepper, cloves, cinnamon and cardamom. For a more traditional take on the Chai tea trend, give Barú’s Spicy Chai Latte Drinking Power a whirl. With real spices and Madagascar bourbon vanilla, this award-winning drinking power makes a pleasant change to hot chocolate.

Sugar and Spice and All Things Nice

Prestat also makes use of Chai in their thin milk chocolate, orange and cardamom wafers. The striking orange and pink packaging compliments the character of this confectionery and looks great on the shelves. The velvety thins are a cool modern replacement for the more traditional after-dinner mints.

Spices such as ginger and cinnamon have had reign of the shelves for too long. The new kids in town are here to stay, delivering new flavours and sensations to a receptive audience. For more information or advice get in touch with your chocolate suppliers’ friendly sales team!
