ALMA MEDIA EXPANDS ITS DELIVERY OPERATIONS IN LAPLAND
Alma Media's printing and distribution company, Alma Manu Oy, will expand its
delivery operations in Lapland region. In January 2012, the company will start
the early morning delivery of Lapin Kansa and Koillis-Lappi newspapers appearing
in Rovaniemi and Kemijärvi, respectively. Both newspapers are published by
Pohjois-Suomen Media Oy, part of Alma Media Group.
"Alma Manu has been responsible for operating our newspaper printing facility in
Rovaniemi since the beginning of 2010. Now we see there is an appropriate
occasion to shift the entire service process of Lapin Kansa - from the printing
press to the letterbox - to Alma Manu and, thus, back to our own hands within
Alma Media Group", says Mr Matti Ilmivalta, Managing Director of Pohjois-Suomen
Media Oy
"We have been developing our operations systematically, aiming to ensure high-
quality early morning delivery of newspapers. The expansion to the circulation
areas of Lapin Kansa and Koillis-Lappi newspapers is a neutral step on this
path", states Ms Helvi Liukkaala, Managing Director of Alma Manu Oy.
Due to the expansion of the delivery operations in Lapland, Alma Manu estimates
it will recruit approximately 90 part-time newspaper deliverers from the Lapland
area.
Currently, Alma Manu has distribution operations at Pirkanmaa, Satakunta and Sea
Lapland regions. The delivery of Lapin Kansa and Koillis-Lappi newspapers will
transfer from Itella to Alma Manu as of January 17, 2012.
