New DVI extenders and switches
The technical change from analog monitors to digital displays also has an influence on the KVM product development.
The “V” in KVM, that is the video, is subject to the development from analog to digital. Nowadays, analog monitors are eclipsed. Digital displays and the keyword “DVI” stand for lossless video transmission.

(firmenpresse) - Guntermann & Drunck GmbH presents new products in the field of “digital video” at this year’s CeBIT. They add to their existing analog extenders and switches.
DVI in Matrixswitch systems
The server connection module „CATpro2-DVI“ presents a special kind of improvement. For the first time computers with digital video output in combination with the switching of keyboard and mouse can be included into a KVM Matrixswitch system. Due to the variety of server connection modules, G&D integrates SUN and VT100 computers into the Matrixswitch system as well as standard computers with PS/2 and USB operating peripherals and analog video. Therefore, G&D makes a mixed operation of analog and digital possible in the field of KVM enterprise switches.
DVI Extender via optical fibre
The new digital KVM Extender „FIBREVision“ of Guntermann & Drunck GmbH bridges distances over 10,000 m. The transmission medium are optical fibres. A transmission via optical fibres guarantees a galvanic separation of sender and transmitter. The optical transmission distance furthermore is unsusceptible against radiated emissions which, for example, occur in the industrial area. Besides keyboard, video and mouse signals, the FIBREVision optionally transmits audio, RS232 and USB 1.1 transparent. The local and the remote workstation supports CRT as well as TFT monitors.
DVI-Extender via CAT cable
The “DVIVision“ has been improved in the field of transmission distance. Besides the KVM signals, also audio, RS232 and USB 1.1 signals are now transmitted up to 140 m. Variants of the extender support computers with up to 3 fold graphics cards. The user can choose locally as well as remotely between the digital or analog monitor operation.
DVI Extender and Splitter in one
With the “DVISplitter2“, G&D presents a device that fits into a waistcoat pocket. It extends a digital video signal over up to 50 m DVI cable. At the same time, it splits the video signal for the operation of two TFTs. Thereby it reaches a resolution of up to 1920 x 1200 (at) 60 Hz. When cascading three devices that are identical in construction, the range of the system increases to 150 m (depending on graphics card and resolution).
DVI/VGA switches for mixed mode
In the field of switches, G&D presents the “DVIMUX8“. It supports the access of a workstation to up to 8 computers with digital and analog video output – even in the mixed operation.
The PS/2 variant of the DVIMUX 8 also switches audio signals besides keyboard, video and mouse signals. The DVIMUX8-USB additionally provides a bidirectional audio and USB 2.0 switching. It also supports dual video per computer.
Step-by-step, many companies change from analog monitors to digital displays. Guntermann & Drunck GmbH accommodates this fact with a “double tracked” VGA/DVI product portfolio.
