Noord/Zuid metro line Amsterdam gives contractor combination VIA NZL assignment for finalization

Amsterdam, the Netherlands - Today it became clear that VIA NZL, a combination
of contractor Visser & Smit Bouw and technical services provider Imtech Building
Services, was given the assignment to finalize the construction of the
Noord/Zuid (North/South) metro line by the Department Noord/Zuidlijn of the
City of Amsterdam. This assignment, with an approximate size of 270 million
euro, marks an important step on the way to final commissioning of the
Noord/Zuidlijn metro line connection.
Partners
Imtech Building Services (a subsidiary of Imtech N.V.) and Visser & Smit Bouw (a
subsidiary of VolkerWessels) will work on the project with Imtech Infra and
VolkerWessels-subsidiaries VolkerRail Nederland and BKB Infra vof. Arcadis
Nederland will play an important role in the area of engineering and systems
integration.
Noord/Zuid metro line
The new Noord/Zuid metro line in Amsterdam is a new metro line with a length of
9.7 kilometers and eight stations. The metro line starts above ground in
Amsterdam-Noord (North) and then runs 7.1 kilometers at a subterranean level
under the center to the existing above ground train and metro station Zuid
(South).
Finalization of the Noord/Zuid metro line: last stage before final commissioning
The finalization of Noord/Zuid metro line, focusing on transportation technology
and construction detailing, is the last large contract to be tendered in the
project. The contract will encompass the realization of the rail and track
systems and related technical infrastructure along the line, as well as
finalization of all metro stations. This includes installations such as
escalators and elevators, lighting, and several other technical solutions.
Start of the work
Work is planned to start in spring 2012. In the preceding period, the design,
works preparation and procurement will be executed by VIA NZL. At the end of
2015 the final construction is to be completed and - after a period of testing
and test driving - the Noord/Zuid metro line is expected to be commissioned in
2017.
