LOGINventory5 (Beta3) now public available
Software developer LOGIN is happy to announce the availability of LOGINventory5 Beta3. After an intensive development cycle and a complete redesign of the software core, LOGINventory5 offers many new features and functions leading to an accelerated query performance and more effective analyses within the Microsoft Management Console (MMC). Simplified user management and new hierarchical filters in the Analyse nodes are significantly enhanced. The innovative Domain node and the mode of displaying the network, the brand new license management capabilities, and the enhanced inventory via SNMP offers users a unique experience in software asset management.

(firmenpresse) - About the new LOGINventory5, LOGIN’s managing director Roland Loetzerich says: “We pursued a new design concept with this version. Previously, the LOGINventory core consisted of only a few components. The new modularity ensures shorter development cycles and better enables future enhancements with greater functionalities in sync with our customers’ needs. The positive feedback to LOGINventory5 Beta shows us we are on the right path.”
Enhanced MMC application
The new LOGINventory5 Dashboard offers a very user friendly graphical interface. Accessible via the root node, it provides a quick overview about the network’s basic inventory data. The settings for LOGINventory5 can now be made via the root node’s “Properties” and the entries in the root node’s new Eventlog track past incidents within the entire program package. A useful innovation for larger multi-site organizations is the new domain node displaying a clearly laid out view of the entire network within the MMC.
Another enhancement over previous versions is the ability to edit Manual Properties and Journal Entries for multiple assets and in query results. As usual the filter bar allows for filtering of value groups within result lists. In LOGINventory5 the filter bar is turned on by default and contains a pull down menu for picking selective values. Users can now also choose between the traditional list view and the new group view gaining an improved overview over the assets.
New methods for analyzing data
Under the freshly designed hood LOGINventory5 contains new functions that offer enhanced interoperability. Analyses are available via hierarchical filters with the Analyse Nodes passed on to sub-nodes. Analyse Nodes can be assigned to different users or user groups and can be displayed as default node types like Assets, Hardware, Software, etc as ‘Root Node’ for all queries (Access Control). The LOGINventory time machine is now available over the ’Properties‘ of any Analyse node. This change results from the new query designer which for the first time allows flexible and unrestricted configuration of queries.
LOGINventory5 has also enhanced the license management. Software licenses can be grouped by software packages as well as administration of license acquisitions and deletions along with the associated documents. The detection of computers where software packages or hot fixes are not installed was also improved and is now implemented as standard functionality.
Enhanced inventory
LOGINventory collects all data of all IP-enabled devices within the network. In Windows environments it is now possible to readout local administrators and admin groups. Non-Windows-based devices like Linux computers, routers, switches, print servers and IP phones are inventoried via SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol). The inventory options for this protocol have been extended so that the Print MIB (Management Information Based) for network printers and the entity MIB for switches and routers can also be readout.
New licensing model, traditional pricing
Prior versions distinguished licensing between computers and devices. LOGINventory v5 now has a much simplified license count: only successfully inventoried assets will be regarded and inserted into the data base. Deleted assets within the Recycle Bin will no longer need a license.
Prices have remained almost identical. All customers now ordering v4 will get a v5 license. The Beta and RC versions will work with a v4 license, the v5 RTM needs a v5 license or a major upgrade. For all customers without Software Upgrade Subscription License (SUSL) this upgrade will be priced at 60% of the full version’s list price including 12 months of SUSL. Any customer needing additional licenses – caused by the new license model – after the upgrade will not have to purchase additional licenses.
