Industrial IEPE sensor with lightning protection for wind power systems

(PresseBox) - The 8811-series accelerometers were specially designed for harsh industrial condition monitoring applications, in which sensors could be exposed to lightning and other extreme weather conditions.

A typical application is vibration monitoring of wind turbine units in offshore wind parks.

In order to cope with such harsh and demanding environments, these IEPE accelerometers feature a rugged industrial housing with internal shielding for EMC-protection, custom lightning protection of up to ±2.5kV and IP68-Protection with 10 meter submersion in salt water for 24hours.

The sensors use ring-shaped annular shear-mode piezo elements and are designed to operate in temperature ranges from -55°C to +120°C. The robust housing is laser welded and hermetically sealed, with a top exit MIL-C-5015 connector. Reverse wiring protection and case isolation round up the remarkable features of this extraordinary design.

In spite of these exceptional features, the sensor remains affordable, making this the engineer's favorite in the wind-generator business.

The accelerometers are available with ±5 g, ±10 g, ±20 g and ±80 g dynamic ranges and have a flat bandwidth up to greater than 10kHz.

Many options and accessories are available such as water proof mating cables, right-angled connectors, signal-conditioning modules and data acquisition systems.
