Statkraft awards NOK 5 million to climate and development projects

(Oslo, 18. august 2011) Statkraft has awarded a total of NOK 5 million to
Norwegian Church Aid, Renewable World, Norwegian People's Aid, Energiråd
Innlandet, Grane Næringsutvikling and the Ny-Ålesund Symposium. The donation
takes place through the Statkraft Fund.
- This year's awards reflect the diversity of national and international energy
and climate projects. This is in line with Statkraft's efforts to fight climate
change and develop more renewable energy in Norway, Europe and the rest of the
world, says CEO Christian Rynning-Tønnesen of Statkraft.
Norwegian Church Aid will receive a total of NOK 1.5 million for two projects.
One of the projects will focus on the development and operation of small-scale
hydro power plants in Laos. The other project offers farmers in Vietnam clean
energy, better sanitation and effective management of agricultural waste through

Renewable World will receive NOK 1 million to develop biogas plants for small-
scale farmers in Nepal. The organisation is based in the UK and cooperates with
the organisation RenewableUK of which Statkraft already is a member and the

Norwegian People's Aid will receive NOK 1 million for their water program in
Somalia. This program will provide clean drinking water by securing water
sources and develop infrastructur for water distribution.

Grane Næringsutvikling will receive NOK 375.000 to facilitate public fishing
spots in the municipalities of Grane and Hattfjelldal, Norway. The main goal of
the project is to strengthen tourism and cultural-based business in the region.

Energiråd Innlandet will receive NOK 125.000 to its' efforts to increase the
interest for environmental and climate issues among youth. One of the planned
activities is a climate conference during autumn 2011. http://www.energirad-

The Ny-Ålesund Symposium will receive NOK 1 million, in line with previous
years' decisions. The Symposium annually gathers researchers, politicians and
business leaders from all over the world to discuss climate and environmental

The Statkraft Fund has been established to support public interest purposes. The
fund awards up to NOK 5 million each year to NGOs, foundations or similar
following application or initiatives from Statkraft's corporate management.
