Mallorca is a terrific place for a wildlife holiday as it is a beautiful island where you can spot a huge array of exotic, rare and stunning birds.

(firmenpresse) - Animal lovers always see a getaway as an opportunity to see beautiful creatures in their natural habitat. There are many excellent destinations all around the globe for an unfor-gettable wildlife holiday; if you enjoy seeing rare and exotic birds in the wild then consider packing your binoculars and jetting off for a trip to Mallorca.

This beautiful Spanish island features dry and wetlands, so you can expect to find an abundance of rare migratory, indigenous and wading species that you will struggle to see anywhere else. The resorts of Fermentor and Pollensa to the north of the island are the best places to spot our winged friends whilst enjoying a wildlife holiday.

Formentor

The wild Formentor Peninsula at the northeast tip of Mallorca is a must-visit for nature lovers as this UNESCO World Heritage Site features inland and coastal habitats. This creates the perfect environment for a wide range of birds and allows for dramatic views of the area. It is considered one of the best places for spotting migratory raptors in spring: you could spot Honey Buzzards, Booted Eagles, Black Kites and more. Balearic Shearwaters, Red Crossbills and Crag Martins are commonly sighted in the area too.

Royal Hideaway Hotel

This beautiful accommodation in Formentor is the ideal retreat for birdwatching on a wildlife holiday thanks to the breathtaking natural surroundings. The pretty hotel is hidden away in the middle of peaceful forests and hills, making it an ideal place for relaxing, nature-spotting strolls.

Pollensa

Picture-perfect Pollensa is home to a number of birds which you won’t see anywhere else in Europe, so be sure to keep your eyes peeled for beautiful indigenous species like the Moustached Warbler, the Black Vulture and Andoun’s Gull.

Along with tourists, this resort is also a popular stop-off for migrating birds such as Bee-eaters, Night Herons and Scops Owls. Boquer Valley is a terrific place to catch a glimpse of these and there are a number of scenic walks through the mountains and along the coast here.

Bordering Pollensa is the enormous and highly important S’Albufera Natural Park – a protected wetland park covering 1,647 hectares. Here you will find many different spe-cies of wading birds within the reedbeds, pools and wet grazing meadows. Birdwatchers flock from all over Europe to visit S’Albufera Natural Park so that they can tick the likes of the purple Gallinule, Shelduck, Crested Coot and the Moustached Warbler amongst some 50 other species off their list.

Club Pollentia

Club Pollentia in the Bay of Pollensa is a great hotel if you are embarking on a wildlife holiday as it provides direct access to both the dry and wetlands, plus you may even spot a few rare birds from your hotel room thanks to the amazing mountain and sea views from the balconies.

As you can see, Mallorca is a wonderful place for a wildlife holiday as there are so many rare and exotic species of bird that either call the island home or migrate through it. Its incredible natural setting and climate provide the perfect setting for rewarding excursions where you are likely to spot all kinds of beautiful species with Formentor and Pollensa being the key resorts for nature lovers.
