Caravan holidays in Dorset make for a perfect opportunity to explore the county’s thriving festival scene. Why not check out some of our favourite events?

(firmenpresse) - Caravan holidays in Dorset are a guaranteed good time for the whole family. With striking scenery, a rich heritage, and all sorts of outdoor activities to take part in, you’ll never run short of things to do, whenever you visit.

However, there’s a lot to be said for picking the right time of year for caravan holidays. In Dorset, there are so many festivals and events that it may be worth scheduling your holiday to coincide with one or two of them. Here are a few of our favourites – see if any catch your eye!

Camp Bestival

Based at Lulworth Castle, Camp Bestival is a music festival aimed at families with small children, offering a massive amount of things to do. Of course, there’s a massive line-up of top musical acts, but there’s also live comedy, theatre productions and other shows (including the incredible Dinosaur World Live). What’s more, there’s all of the interactive fun that you’d expect, with a vast variety of attractions and activities for everyone to enjoy.

Taking place from 26 to 29 July 2018, which is a popular time of year for caravan holidays in Dorset, Camp Bestival is a great way to start or end your break in the county.

Lyme Regis Fossil Festival

With Dorset’s Jurassic Coast famed as a place for finding the remains of prehistoric animals, it’s no surprise that this heritage is celebrated with a dedicated fossil festival in Lyme Regis. Running on 5 and 6 May 2018, you’ll find talks, tours and interactive activities on offer for the whole family.

You can learn about palaeontology from real scientists, go on guided tours of the area, search for fossils and take a look around a fantastic fossil-themed market.

Tankfest

Anyone interested in history – or just the parts involving tanks – won’t want to miss out on Tankfest, taking place at the Bovington Tank Museum from 29 June to 1 July 2018. See the past of mechanised warfare brought to life with displays and demonstrations, showcasing 100 years of armoured vehicles.

You can see a huge range of tanks put through their paces in the arena, and even get the chance to take a ride on a M548 armoured carrier. There’s also a variety of trade stalls on offer, as well as food and drink available on site. You can take some time to look around the museum, too.

The Great Dorset Chilli Festival

Love spicy food? You won’t want to miss out on the Great Dorset Chilli Festival, a celebration of those hot little peppers that make your tongue burn and your eyes water. You’ll be amazed by the variety of food that can be made using chilli – not just the usual Mexican cuisine and hot curries, but also chutney, chocolate and cheese, to name just a few.

The event takes place in Wimborne St Giles on 28 and 29 July 2018. Don’t worry if there’s someone in the family whose tastes run to the milder end of the scale – there’s plenty of spice-free offerings, as well as a range of general interest events, such as musical performances and falconry displays.

As if caravan holidays in Dorset weren’t fun enough already, these are just a few of the festivals to which the county plays host. Don’t miss out on amazing family fun!
