(firmenpresse) - Düsseldorf. The economy is facing the next major industrial revolution, with the focus on the Internet of Things (IoT). There are numerous areas in which mobile data collection plays a central role: Whether in retail or logistics, transport, production, field & sales force automation or in the health sector – Android handheld terminals help their users significantly and save both time and money. DENSO, part of the Toyota group and inventor of the QR Code, is launching two new Android handheld terminals in May, which scan on a grand scale. “Our BHT-1800 is equipped with a 5” superscreen for outstanding legibility. The BHT-1700 is also equipped with an extra-large display: with its 4” mega display and physical keyboard, it offers a multitude of features and refinements,” says Sina Haupt, Marketing Assistant of the DENSO Auto-ID Business Unit. Both Android handheld terminals of the mobile data collection experts will be demonstrated live at the Retail Business Technology Expo (RBTE). Further information on secure handheld terminals and hand scanners with Android, solutions for mobile data collection, the QR Code and SQRC®, as well as the DENSO Auto-ID Business Unit are available at https://www.denso-autoid-eu.com/en.html.

DENSO’s Android Handheld Terminals are launched as a Package

The Android handheld terminals BHT-1700 and BHT-1800 are equipped with Android 7.1.2 (Nougat) and are introduced to the market as a package, since they both work with the same technology. Customers of DENSO, part of the Toyota group and inventor of the QR code, can choose which of the two Android mobile data collection devices they prefer. On the one hand, there is the BHT-1700 handheld terminal with a physical keyboard; and on the other hand, there is the BHT-1800 handheld terminal without a keyboard. “We offer our customers, who work in retail and logistics for example, the two different Android handheld terminals, so that they can definitely find the right mobile data collection device for themselves. In addition, you can choose between six different models from the respective series,” says Haupt. Both the BHT-1700 handheld terminal and the BHT-1800 handheld terminal are ergonomically designed with an angled scan head. “With handheld terminals and hand scanners, there is often the problem that, when scanning, one's hand must be unnaturally twisted in order to read 1D and 2D barcodes. But with the angled scan head of the BHT-1800 and BHT-1700, users can work naturally with our data collection devices,” explains Haupt. Handling the handheld terminals is also much easier compared to other mobile data capture devices: The touch panels can be operated with one hand, and side-mounted magic keys offer an additional advantage. Furthermore, the BHT-1800 has a thumb-controllable virtual scan key. This makes the handheld terminal for mobile data acquisition even faster and easier to use. The BHT-1700 is also available as a long-range model with a GunGrip.

Scanning on a Grand Scale

With the new BHT-1800 Android handheld terminal und BHT-1700 Android handheld terminal, big has just become bigger: “At DENSO, progress starts by asking questions. So we asked ourselves how big the display of a handheld terminal with a keyboard can really be. Our BHT-1700 handheld terminal with its 4” mega display is the answer.” This puts the BHT-1700 more or less at the maximum limit for a handheld terminal with keyboard. “Our BHT-1800 handheld terminal is, in turn, the result of a vision,” continues Haupt. “We wanted to develop a touchscreen computer with a display that pushes the boundaries. We achieved that with the BHT-1800,” says Haupt. The BHT-1800 weighs only 275 grams thanks to its polycarbonate housing. Additionally, it packs DENSO’s biggest ever display. And if the display is particularly large, it must also be particularly protected to be robust. The experts for mobile data collection have thought of everything: Both Android handheld terminals are fitted with crack-resistant Asahi Dragontrail™ Pro glass as standard – one of the best in the industry. Furthermore, with their numerous features, both handheld terminals are designed for big challenges and help reduce the processes for users in retail and logistics, for example, to a minimum. Hence, the users of the BHT-1700 and BHT-1800 can also enjoy all the advantages of a smartphone such as making phone calls, going online, controlling apps, sending text messages and taking pictures.

Energising, Optimising, and Accelerating with the BHT-1700 Android Handheld Terminal

The BHT-1700 is suitable for a variety of applications, making it perfect for the logistics industry as well. Each of the six models of the BHT-1700 series is configured to speed the users’ processes to the max, from the receipt of goods to checking the inventory. The big display shows the user all important data at a glance – for greater transparency and shorter response times. Since the handling is also massively simplified, the BHT-1700 can optimally support its users in logistics. The warehouse management can be energised by optimizing the supply management and order picking in large warehouse with the BHT-1700. The production can also be optimised with the Android BHT-1700 handheld terminal, since the user can track production data on the 4” mega display and update them via the keyboard. Last but not least, the rack management can also be accelerated, as the user can view large volumes of items on the display and forward these using the magic key. The BHT-1700 reads 1D and 2D barcodes as well as NFC cards from as close as 30 millimetres – even when damaged. The long-range model with GunGrip even enables non-stop scanning from a distance of up to ten metres. Especially in logistics and in warehouses, this is a great advantage. The lightest model weighs only 298 grams; the long-range model weighs only 438 grams, despite the GunGrip. More information on the secure handheld terminals, scanners, solutions for mobile data collection, innovations with NFC, and the DENSO Auto-ID Business Unit are available at https://www.denso-autoid-eu.com/en.html.

Organising, Professionalising, and Optimising with the BHT-1800 Android Handheld Terminal

Among other things, the BHT-1800 is ideally suited to simplify processes in the retail industry. The Android handheld terminal demonstrates its capabilities especially where data has to be collected and processed in bulk. Thus, the users can organise their logistics in the retail industry by scanning and locating their deliveries in real time. Especially in retail, data has to be collected precisely. Whether it is for warehousing, ordering or sales management, the users can work securely and collect data with precision – even if codes are damaged. When working in sales, the 5’’ superscreen also has the advantage that the goods can be presented directly on the large display and the customer can immediately take a look at the selection. Even the entry-level version offers all the key functions. For those with even more sophisticated requirements, there is the high-end model packing the complete set of functions, from NFC to front camera. The BHT-1800 handheld terminal with Android can also read 1D and 2D barcodes as well as NFC cards from as close as 30 millimetres.

Quality beyond the Norm

How great the two new Android handheld terminals from DENSO really are, only becomes apparent years later. Innovation simply for the sake of innovating is not what DENSO, part of the Toyota group and inventor of the QR Code, is about. “The new handheld terminals have passed all our quality tests. They offer robustness and durability, even in the harshest conditions,” says Haupt. Both handheld terminals are IP67-certified. The IP67-certification defines, on the one hand, that the device is dustproof. On the other hand, it defines the protection against temporary submersion of up to a maximum of one metre of water depth for a maximum of 30 minutes. In addition, they work in extreme temperatures between -20 and up to +50 degrees Celsius. Their touchscreens are easy to use with wet fingers, gloves or a pen. And if something does not work smoothly, DENSO, part of the Toyota group and inventor of the QR Code, offers its customers a three year warranty on both the BHT-1700 and the BHT-1800. “We are very excited about the launch of our new Android handheld terminals and are confident that the BHT-1700 and BHT-1800 will also delight our customers, some of whom we have been working with for more than 20 years,” Haupt sums up.
