5 Reasons to Plan a Family Adventure to Mallorca This Summer

We’ve got 5 great reasons for you to take your family to Mallorca. Airport transfers makes even the travel bit easy.

(firmenpresse) - There are many exciting family activities to do from the moment you touch down at Mallorca airport. Transfer from biking to sailing to wildlife spotting: everything is in place for the holiday of a childhood. Here are five great locations to aim for if you’re planning a couple of weeks out with the kids.

S’Albufera des Grau Natural Park

We start with a beautiful natural park, conserved as the habitat of a host of creatures in forests, along dune-y coastlines and on rich wetlands. The most exciting sights for visitors are the birds of prey: ospreys, falcons and herons are all known to nest there. It’s a great environment to go for walks too with plenty of scope for older children to discover and embark on the path of naturalism.

And the best thing about S’Albufera? Entry is free!

Bay of Alcúdia Paddling

Found in the north-east of Mallorca is the Badia d’Alcúdia. A calm bay with exquisite azure blue water, this is the perfect home for water sport beginners. Stand-up paddleboarding is a super relaxing means of exploring the gentle sea. It doesn’t take very long to master either, with professional instructors close by offering both tuition and activity-filled day packages around Alcúdia. It is essential that all participants know how to swim, however.

Sóller Valley Mountain Biking

Cycling is a big deal in Spain and Mallorca possesses great roads for that, but the Balearic Island is also home to road cycling’s hardier, gruffer sibling: mountain biking. In the mountainous Tramuntana range to the north and west of the island lies Sóller Valley, around which are draped a multitude of excellent tracks.

There are local guides ready to point beginners in the direction of more or less taxing routes – depending on how fit you’re feeling! Pass down (or up) through olive groves and around dramatic rocky formations: this is the quintessential Mediterranean experience. It’s the ideal activity for kids with a passion for exercise and the outdoors.

Sail on Pollença Bay

Be sure to relish another tranquil Mallorcan bay: Pollença. It boasts perfect conditions for those families really keen to push the boat out, with sailing courses specially designed for water newbies. Patient teachers can show you the ropes over three days, so you too can glide across the stable waters and pull out expert manoeuvres like tacking, jibing and windcourses.

Explorer on Isla Cabrera

South of Mallorca lies this remarkable national park. With only a fourteenth-century castle and bar on the island, Cabrera is largely untarnished by the eyesores and pollution of human construction – and the birds, fish and reptiles have taken advantage. The archipelago warrants a full day of adventure: take a cruise with the family and spend a day swimming, walking and birdwatching in this flourishing oasis of natural calm.

How to Get There

As ever, the trickiest part of a holiday is working out how to get there. You can reach Palma in two and a half hours from any of the London airports, and from Edinburgh it’s nearly three hours. All big British cities have direct links to Mallorca airport. Transfer taxis can be easily arranged prior to departure to make travel upon arrival even easier.
