Shrouded in Secrets: Mysterious Places in Malaga

ID: 579964

With a taxi from Malaga airport, set off on a weekend of finding shrouded secrets and paranormal activity in Malaga’s more mysterious side.

(firmenpresse) - If you’re someone who enjoys wandering around a foreign city on their own to find the non-touristy sites, then these specially selected secrets of Malaga might just be for you. Most European cities are now dominated by mass-tourism which creates queues that stretch for miles outside (and inside!) “must see” attractions. Quite quickly, galleries and museums seem to blur into a single hazy memory. That's why it's so important to find something extra and spectacular about the places you visit. Malaga is making a name for itself in providing this something “extra” and this article will give you a brief introduction to some such hidden wonders.

San Miguel Cemetery

What better way to start this journey than with a spooky cemetery? The San Miguel Cemetery is not the final resting place of the world famous lager. Rather, it is a truly stunning location of elaborate tombs and mausoleums. Think Highgate revamped and relocated to the Costa del Sol. Located in Fuente Olletas, the graveyard is a hidden attraction from the hustle and bustle of the historic old town of the city centre. On top of this, American writer James Bowles is buried here… and is said to haunt the place at night.

The Cortijo Jurado

This Hacienda is a far cry from its Manchester namesake. Locally known as, “the house of the thousand windows”, this huge property sits imposingly on a hillside out of town. Many followers of the paranormal have come here to investigate claims of ghostly activity, but to no avail. The location is believed to have been central to a satanic sex cult that resulted in the disappearances of several teenagers in the 19th century. All I can say is, don’t be caught here alone at night!

Poltergeist in Calle Císter

If the last few locations haven’t got you fully signed up to your local Ghostbusters branch, then this one might just do the trick. Calle Cister is the only police case in Spanish history that officially documented the presence of ghost activity. You could be forgiven for thinking this was all a long time ago in those strange pre-industrial days. But you’d be wrong. The case was opened in 1991 after workers inside the buildings were concerned about objects supposedly flying around in certain rooms. The inhabitants of the building eventually had to move out, fearing for their lives. Comrade in arms, this one is for only the bravest Ghostbusters amongst us!

Malaga is an almighty fright-fest sitting on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea. Although it might have a reputation for sunshine and Sangria, the more inquisitive visitor can expect to find a far more unsettling side to the city. Luckily for you, Malaga is not too far from the UK for a weekend away of paranormal activities. Flights take on average just under 3 hours and operate from all major UK airports. A taxi from Malaga airport is then the best way to prepare yourself for these most mysterious of places.
