Take a Walk on the Wild Side: Hike Caminito del Rey
With just a short flight and taxi from Malaga airport to reach the Caminito del Rey, there’s no excuse not to take-off with the family on an awesome adventure.

First: Some History
Originally built in 1901-05, this industrial bridge scaled the El Chorro gorge to transport material between two important power stations. But these weren't just any old power stations, for their time they were cutting-edge hydroelectric dams. The significance of this achievement was cemented by a royal opening by the king of Spain Alfonso XIII. The path was built using cement and intricate metal supports. Having been built well before the health and safety age, it also included only a meager handrail between workers and a 400m drop. Thankfully safety precautions are far more substantial on the walk today!
Second: The Perfect Route; Ardales to Alora
If you don’t have the time to commit to the entire walk, then it is a good idea to join just for the Ardales to Alora route. Road access from the MA-444 makes this an easy part of the trail to reach from Malaga. It's quick too, just a 56min zip up the motorway from the city centre. A tunnel from the car park leads you through to a small walk before the official entry point- the best things come to those who wait. There’s no need to worry about traversing the old trail, however, as a modern replica has been built on top. The path is one metre wide, encompasses bridges and cliffs and is sure to provide world-class views of the surrounding mountains.
Third: Things to Keep in Mind
●Helmets are provided and must be kept on at all times
●Those of a nervous disposition should not attempt this climb
●There are no bathrooms or facilities on the route
●Please bring water and food with you
●Bus services connect the two sides
