Festivals to Keep the Party Going in Mallorca

ID: 582734

Explore the traditional fiestas of Mallorca all year round – there’s never a dull moment on this island.

(firmenpresse) - The Balearic Island of Mallorca is home to so much more than just sun, sea and sand. For some holidaymakers it is the festivals and the buzzing nightlife that makes Mallorca such a popular destination.

Throughout the entire year the island hosts a range of diverse celebrations, so if you prefer to travel off-peak, this is a fantastic location. Here are some festival favourites that might take your fancy if you’re thinking about a Mallorca holiday…

Festes de Sant Sebastia

This two-week-long party happens in January and celebrates the capital’s patron saint, St Sebastian. Known as Mallorca’s biggest festival, the event begins with a large bonfire being lit in the Plaça Major, followed by a parade across the square and a series of musical events. Over the next few days the legendary fire runs take place, and there are also exhibitions, sporting events and various entertainment options for children.

The Son Severa Almond Fair

Cases de Ca s'Hereu is a country estate in Son Severa dating back to the 13th century, and in February it plays host to Mallorca’s famous Almond Fair. As the almond trees start to blossom, the harvest begins and the locals join together to celebrate the important, versatile crop. The quaint stalls in the area sell many almond-based products including make-up, oils, soap, scented candles and perfumes. You may also find unique arts and crafts made by the locals, which make lovely holiday gifts.

Grape Harvest Festival

In September, La Festa des Vermar (the Grape Harvest Festival) is celebrated in Binissalem, and is ideal for those wanting to truly immerse themselves in the native traditions. The locals of this wine-growing town enjoy the vast grape harvest in a rather unusual way – by pelting each other with the fruits! If you’re joining in, be sure to wear old clothes or alternatively stand well back to avoid the mess.

Olive Oil Fair

The Feria del Aceite (Olive Oil Fair) takes place in November, in the small town of Caimari. Find out how olives are harvested in the fields, discover traditional olive-pressing methods and learn how oil has been made over the years. The charming streets are lined with stalls selling various Mallorcan products and locals singing songs of the harvest.

How to Get There

Flying to Mallorca from London takes just two and a half hours, and a Mallorca airport transfer will have you at your accommodation in no time. If you pre-book, you won’t have to worry about your transportation at all. Plus, some services offer shared shuttles which will help to save some money – you may even meet fellow partygoers on your journey. A Mallorca airport transfer is without doubt the most effective and efficient way to travel to your accommodation and start enjoying the fiestas!
