CBSA Arrests Five Ship Deserters
(firmenpresse) - OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 08/23/11 -- The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) today announced the arrest of five Pakistani nationals, crew members who abandoned their cargo ship. They were arrested by CBSA inland enforcement officers on August 16, 2011, at a local residence in Montreal, Quebec.
The five individuals were crew members aboard a cargo ship, docked at Port Alberni, British Columbia, when on July 26, 2011, they left the ship without visas or authorization. This act is in contravention of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act. The five individuals were found to be inadmissible for deserting the ship, and removal orders were issued.
The Agency works closely with domestic and international law enforcement partners and other organizations to ensure that inadmissible persons are apprehended and removed as soon as possible. The CBSA is committed to protecting the integrity of the border by ensuring Canada's population is safe and secure from any possible threats.
