Going on Holiday with the Kids? Think Gran Canaria

Going on Holiday with the Kids? Think Gran Canaria

ID: 585402

There are plenty of parks and great activities to keep children happy on Gran Canaria. Go from ho hum to holiday mode in no time at all!

(firmenpresse) - Family holidays are best catered for in dedicated resorts, with warm weather and plenty of activities and theme parks to keep children occupied and enthusiastic. According to these specifications there are few better destinations than Gran Canaria. There are numerous and varied things to do across the whole island – with enough to wear out even the most boisterous little ones.

Let Gran Canaria transfer the children from the humdrum monotony of school life and away to these brilliant activities...

Palmitos Park

This place is for animal lovers above all, but it’s an exciting and fascinating zoo and botanical park for children all ages. You can enjoy the orangutans and gibbons, meerkats, parrots and majestic birds of prey and dolphins. For weary parents in need of respite, there are quiet, beautifully diverse botanical gardens as well.

Sioux City

Probably the most peculiar and unlikely amusement is Sioux City, a Western-style town set in the dusty scrub in the south of the island. The family can dress up like a cowboy or a scandalous scoundrel, and roam into saloons, through sheriff stations and around a church, just as they look in the old movies. There are live performances of bank hold-ups and other fun Wild West scenarios, and horse riding is the icing on the cake.

Aqualand in Maspalomas

A waterpark may seem a little tame after hearing about Sioux City, but not when the concept is executed as well as Aqualand. There are enough waterslides, of varying height and intensity, to excite family members of any age. Mamut is a raft slide with a number of stomach wrenching drops; there is a wave pool on Discovery Beach; and Children’s Paradise is safe enough for even the youngest toddlers to have a splash around.

There are also plenty of cafes and food places to make sure the children don’t go hungry with all the energetic running around.

Angry Birds Park

This park – and yes it is themed after the viral mobile game – boasts 25 different activities from which everyone will find something they’re eager to try. Crazy golf, karts, slides and trampolines are just a few of the things to do.

Holiday World

The name of this theme park might be a little obvious, but nonetheless Holiday World is a great traditional dip into the world of rides and rollercoasters. The Aquatic Familiar Track allows children to pilot their own boat, and there is also a little train that circles the park. Food outlets abound, so a full day can be spent in Holiday World without any danger of getting hungry or thirsty. It is open all year round.

Ride a Camel

Who wouldn’t want to ride a camel, the quintessential exotic desert animal, around the dunes of Maspalomas? Most tours – guided by experienced experts – take around half an hour, but longer treks are also available.

How to Get There

Gran Canaria, the largest of the Canary Islands, is a four and a half hour flight away from the UK. It is well serviced by the biggest British airports, with multiple airlines flying regular routes daily. Gran Canaria transfers are available on arrival to make the trip from airport to hotel that little bit easier. It’s the best way to start any family holiday.
