The Honourable Steven Blaney, Minister of Veterans Affairs, today took part in the filming of Alain Stanke's new documentary, Des jeunes de coeur, a film about a group of Veterans from the Quebec City area who have been meeting for breakfast for more than 10 years.

The shooting of the last scenes and interviews took place at the food court in the Galeries de la Capitale where the group holds its weekly breakfast club. Minister Blaney took a few moments to speak with the stars of the day and was later interviewed by Alain Stanke for the film.

"It's an honour for me, as Minister of Veterans Affairs, to be a part of this documentary. It's a wonderful opportunity to share my pride in our Veterans," said Minister Blaney on the set. "We have to preserve the legacy of our Canadian Veterans so future generations recognize the importance of their contributions. The documentary is an excellent way to do just that."

"We look for heroes in books and in films. If only we took the time to listen to those who made history, we would learn that we have heroes with big hearts right here at home," added Alain Stanke.

These Second World War, Korean War and Canadian Forces Veterans get together once a week for breakfast for camaraderie and the support it provides them. During today's filming, the crew was able to collect some great stories, including those of a former German sailor and a Canadian soldier who served in Afghanistan.
