Computer-aided digital planning for spinal surgeries is increasingly more important and is becoming more widely used in the daily routine of neurosurgeons. Furthermore, in recent years, spine surgery is orienting more towards the requirements of orthopedic and trauma surgery (for example, arthroplasty and trauma registries). In 2015, mediCAD Hectec GmbH introduced its software module mediCAD® Spine 3D, which proved to be an innovative new tool in the field of spine surgery. This software enables the physician to prepare an optimal, revision-proof and modern surgical plan for neurosurgical cases. Since first introduced, mediCAD® Spine 3D has made it easier for neurosurgeons to perform preoperative planning with performance features such as sagittal balance calculation, automatic placement of screws and cages, easy planning of spinal fusion or the insertion of rods. Planning can be done in both two- and three-dimensions, either by viewing an overall model in 3D or by the representation of the individual 2D layers in the axial, sagittal or coronal plane.
Previously, physicians could use mediCAD® Spine 3D to plan with x-rays and CT scans. In this new release of mediCAD® Spine 3D, Version 2.2, the software now offers full MRI support with complete recognition of all bony structures. The new version also adds Le Huec sagittal balance functionality and an even better and faster automatic segmentation feature.
Of course, as with previous versions, mediCAD® Spine 3D includes a constantly growing database of digitized templates obtained directly from the world?s leading implant manufacturers. This database is updated frequently, and users have the advantage of creating a personal favorites list to quickly choose from most frequently used implants. Across mediCAD Hectec GmbH?s entire product line, physicians are able to readily access around 3,000 implants from 130 international implant manufacturers.
