Readiness Check Smart Factory: Achieve a Competitive Edge with Industry 4.0
A VDMA survey shows how far companies have come on their way to the Smart Factory
(PresseBox) - Nine out of ten companies in mechanical engineering and plant construction are only just at the beginning on their way to becoming a Smart Factory. This is the result of a survey conducted by the Verband Deutscher Maschinen- und Anlagenbau e. V. (German Engineering Federation - VDMA). Accordingly, three out of four companies have not connected their machinery and equipment to higher-level IT systems. One out of five companies does not record any machine or process data.
Of the 300 companies surveyed, the majority stated that they see Industry 4.0 as an opportunity rather than a risk. Nine out of ten even consider Industry 4.0 to be the key driver for establishing themselves in the market and gaining a competitive edge.
Interesting to see: although most people are aware of the potential of Industry 4.0, they are deterred by the complexity of the issue. "They lack a reliable pilot to guide them and answer their questions competently. For this reason, we have developed a Readiness Check for the Smart Factory. This gives companies a kind of compass to safely navigate their way towards Industry 4.0," says Jürgen Petzel, Vice President Sales at MPDV.
