(Thomson Reuters ONE) - Oslo, Norway, September 21, 2009 - REC today announced the results ofa study performed by Fraunhofer Institute, the leading European solartechnology research institute, placing REC solar modules ahead of twoleading module brands in a year-long performance ratio study. Thestudy was commissioned by REC. The study also demonstrated that REC'suse of the Sunarc* anti-reflective treatment on the module glassincreases energy production.During a period of 12 months Fraunhofer studied the performance oftwo arrays with REC modules, one array with modules from a leadingEuropean producer, and one array with modules from a leading Chineseproducer. During the test, the REC modules recorded a performanceratio 4.8 percent higher than the Chinese modules and 1 percenthigher than the European modules. "The higher performance ratiotranslates into increased production of electricity and additionalmoney generated for the owner of the system with REC modules", saidÿsmund Fodstad, VP Sales & Marketing. REC provides a 25-year poweroutput guarantee on its modules. The performance ratio is calculated by comparing the nameplatecapacity of a solar module with the actual power output of thesystem. Performance ratio is widely considered the best measure ofthe quality of a module because all components and their interactionsare taken into consideration. The Fraunhofer study also demonstrated that REC's use ofanti-reflective treatment on the module glass increases energyproduction and performance ratio. The test evaluated two arrays ofidentical REC modules, one with anti-reflective treated glass and onewithout. The modules with anti-reflective treated glass showed ahigher performance ratio compared to modules with untreated glass. The anti-reflective treatment reduces the reflectivity of the glasssurface, allowing more sunlight to enter into the solar cells forconversion to electricity. The treatment has been applied on allmodules manufactured by REC since 2007. "This study confirms that theanti-reflective treatment of the glass used in the REC modulescontributes to excellent performance in a wide range of sunlightconditions," Fodstad said. The REC modules are optimized for lowlight conditions such as sunrise and sunset, in effect waking upearly in the morning and going to sleep late in the evening.About RECREC is the leading vertically integrated player in the solar energyindustry. REC Silicon and REC Wafer are among the world's largestproducers of polysilicon and wafers, respectively, for solarapplications. REC Solar is a rapidly growing manufacturer of solarcells and modules, and is also engaging in project developmentactivities in selected segments of the PV market. REC had revenues ofNOK 8 191 million and an operating profit of NOK 2 529 million in2008. Close to 3 000 employees work in REC's worldwide organization.See www.recgroup.com for more information about REC.Media InquiriesFor more information, quotes or photography, please contact VicePresident of Sales & Marketing, ÿsmund Fodstad at + 47 954 23 070, oraasmund.fodstad(at)recgroup.com* Sunarc is a registered Community Trade Mark within EC and aregistered trademark in the United States and other countries.http://hugin.info/136555/R/1342541/321383.pdfhttp://hugin.info/136555/R/1342541/321384.pdfThis announcement was originally distributed by Hugin.
