Rijkswaterstaat awards Heijmans contract to widen A50 Valburg -
Grijsoord motorway
(Thomson Reuters ONE) - 's-Hertogenbosch - Heijmans Infrastructure has been selected by theDirectorate-General for Public Works and Water Management to designand construct the widening of the A50 Valburg - Grijsoord motorway.The contract value amounts to approximately ?50 million. The proposalsubmitted by Heijmans was evaluated on the basis of cost as well asquality. Heijmans received the top scores in terms of both cost andquality.The contract involves the widening of the motorway in both directionsfor a distance of 14 kilometres between the Valburg (A15) andGrijsoord (A12) intersections. The motorway will be widened from 2x2lanes to 2x3 lanes and the project will also involve the replacementof the entire road surface with double-layer highly porous asphalt.A new ecoduct will be constructed between Renkum and Grijsoord,several existing civil works on the A50 between Valburg and Heterenwill be replaced and the bridge across the Lower Rhine will bereinforced. The existing Dynamic Traffic Management System will bemodernized and expanded.The contract value and the qualitative portion were based on anintegrated approach developed by Heijmans Infrastructure IntegratedProjects (HIGP) with contributions from all disciplines within theHeijmans Infrastructure Sector. HIGP is responsible for the executionof the project, thus ensuring the use of an integrated approach.Preliminary preparations will commence in the fall of 2009. Theactual construction start date is the beginning of 2010. The work issubdivided into two segments.The Valburg - Renkum road segment will be open to traffic at the endof 2010; the Renkum - Grijsoord segment in the first half of 2011.For additional information
