Franklin County, Tenn., Farmland to Sell at Absolute Auction

(firmenpresse) - NASHVILLE, TN -- (Marketwire) -- 09/01/11 -- Owens Farms, the 813-acre Franklin County cotton farm operated by Randall Owens for well over three decades, will sell to the highest bidder at absolute auction Thursday, Oct. 6, as Nashville-based teams with farmland specialists for the sale.
"Our father died in 2007, and my sister and I both live outside the immediate area, so it's time to let it go," said Karen Moore, one of two daughters of Owens, who also owned Elora Gin Company. "The land has been leased for the last few years and is still being farmed. Despite many wonderful memories of time we spent on this beautiful property, we feel that it is time to sell," she said.
The farm will sell in 22 tracts ranging from six acres to 144 acres, according to Will McLemore, president of the Nashville auction company. The auction will be conducted at 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 6, at Monterey Station in Cowan.
"Most of this land -- about 610 acres -- is tillable farmland, which has been planted in cotton in recent years but is suitable for corn, soybeans and other crops," said McLemore. "The property is located in the picturesque town of Cowan, Tenn., and it's just a few minutes from University of the South at Sewanee. Some of the tracts -- especially along U.S. 41/U.S. 64 -- have development potential, and there are some hunting tracts as well."
McLemore said he partnered with Schrader because of the Indiana firm's farmland expertise. "Farmland has -- by far -- been the best-performing real estate category in recent years, and nobody understands farmland like Schrader," said McLemore.
Auction personnel will be available to guide inspections of the property on Sept. 8 and Sept. 24. Individuals interested in additional information may call 615-517-7675 or visit mclemoreauction.com.
