EdOptions(TM) Launches Text to Speech Functionality in Online Curriculum
New Feature Enhances Stars Suite(R) Experience for Students
(firmenpresse) - FALLS CHURCH, VA -- (Marketwire) -- 09/01/11 -- EdOptions™ announced today the release of Text to Speech, a new feature allowing users of its Web-based courses to have text within the curriculum read out loud. By establishing a partnership with ReadSpeaker®, the developer of online text to speech applications, EdOptions™ continues its commitment to increased student accessibility of its online curriculum Stars Suite.
"In response to our clients' needs, we have added functionality to Stars Suite® benefiting all users but particularly those with reading disabilities, a need for help with pronunciation of words, and text-limited web-browsing devices, by providing expanded access to our courses," said Janice Wilder, vice president of academics and curriculum for EdOptions™. "Allowing users the option to listen to our online text will give many students a better understanding of the content and an increased opportunity for success with the course."
The Stars Suite® Text to Speech feature is simple to use. Users select a portion of text within the program's online course that they would like to listen to and then select the pop-up listen button, which appears next to the mouse pointer. Upon clicking the pop-up listen button, a smaller control panel will appear and the program will automatically start reading the text the user has selected. In addition to pausing, stopping, or restarting the reading, users may also control the speed and manner -- word-by-word or sentence-by-sentence -- in which the text is read.
