DSM contributes to world record for most efficient solar module
(Thomson Reuters ONE) - Royal DSM N.V., the global Life Sciences and Materials Sciencescompany headquartered in the Netherlands, announces today that itsKhepriCoat(TM) anti-reflective coating system has contributed toachieving the highest energy conversion ever of a full-size solarmodule.The world record of 16.4%, achieved by the Energy Research Centre ofthe Netherlands (ECN), was verified by global certification andtesting organization TÿV. The previous record of 15.5% from 1998 wasbroken by an impressive 0.9 percentage point. A significant part ofthis efficiency improvement can be attributed to DSM's coating.The new record efficiency of 16.4% means a substantial step in theongoing quest to bring solar energy closer to "grid parity", thepoint at which solar energy is equal to or cheaper than conventionalelectricity. This would make it broadly accessible to both industrialand residential users without state and/or government subsidies. Thesuccessful utilization of DSM's KhepriCoat(TM) anti-reflectivecoating confirms its performance leadership and will contribute tothe speed of implementation of anti-reflective coatings in therapidly growing solar energy market.Due to an ever increasing demand for generation of sustainableenergy, solar power will play a critically important role in futureenergy supply. To enable these developments, innovative companieslike DSM are constantly working on technology breakthroughs thatallow a significant cost reduction in solar systems.One such breakthrough has been the development of DSM'sKhepriCoat(TM) anti-reflective coating on solar glass, which offersthe best performance in terms of light transmission, durability andflexibility.
