Asklepios increases its share in MediClin to more than 50 per cent.

Hamburg, September 16, 2011. Asklepios Kliniken GmbH has acquired 18 per
cent of MediClin AG's shares. Asklepios therewith extends its previous
share from around 34.7 to 52.7 per cent and now holds the majority.
This afternoon, the Board of Directors decided to appoint the current
Chairman of the Board of the public company MediClin, Dr. Ulrich
Wandschneider, Chairman of Corporate Management of Asklepios Kliniken group
in Hamburg as from November 1, 2011. Stephan Leonhard, Chief Financial
Officer at Asklepios Kliniken group, will immediately become Vice President
of Corporate management.
'A majority interest in MediClin strengthens our position in the German
hospital market. With a close collaboration between both companies and the
further development of the business model of integrated health care, we
have established the best conditions for further growth', said Dr. Bernard
gr. Broermann, founder and sole shareholder of Asklepios Clinics.
Regarding the acquisition of a majority stake in MediClin, Stephan Leonhard
explained today: 'With this deal, we want to underline our claim of being
among the leading clinic operations in Germany and Europe not only
regarding medical quality and innovation, but also regarding size.'
'I am really glad that the acquisition has now been completed and I have
high expectations regarding the close collaboration between both clinic
companies', Stephan Leonhard went on. Ulrich Wandschneider also sees many
common approaches and a big development potential against the background of
personal organization. 'The fact that know-how and competences can also be
used conjointly redounds to both companies' advantage', Wandschneider said.
At the time he takes office, Dr. Wandschneider will resign from his
position as Chairman of the Board of MediClin AG and then keep exercising a
large part of his previous functions at MediClin as a proper member of the
Board.
Vita Dr. Ulrich Wandschneider:
Dr. Ulrich Wandschneider, born 1961. He completed an apprenticeship at the
Commerzbank, studied Business Administration in Hamburg and Zürich. From
1987 to 2002, he worked at Arthur Andersen, then at Deloitte Consulting.
Since November 2004, he has been Chairman of the Board at MediClin AG. He
is a member of the board of trustees of the Hanns Martin
Schleyer-foundation, first Vice President of the BDPK (Bundesverband
Deutscher Privatkliniken e. V.).
Vita accountant Stephan Leonhard, Dipl.-Kfm.:
Stephan Leonhard, born in 1961, has been employed as the CFO and authorized
representative at Asklepios since 2002. Leonhard can look back on more than
20 years of international financial and controlling experience. After his
studies in Business Administration at the University of Mannheim, he
acquired experience in the area of tax consulting/auditing at Ernst&Young. He worked as a Financial Director or CFO at various other renowned
companies such as ABB or Deutsche Bahn, with an emphasis on M&A and
financing procurement. He has been a member of Corporate Management since
2007.
