SIU Investigating Collision Near Marathon

(firmenpresse) - MISSISSAUGA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 09/12/11 -- Ontario's Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is probing the circumstances surrounding the injuries received by two people in a motor vehicle collision outside Marathon yesterday afternoon.
The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) contacted the SIU yesterday afternoon and reported that officers from the Schreiber Detachment of the OPP attempted to stop a car that was on Highway 17. The car did not stop and continued eastbound.
At approximately 2:50 p.m. the driver lost control of the car, and it left the road and struck a rock face. Both the 15-year-old driver and 15-year-old passenger sustained serious injuries. They were taken to Wilson Memorial Hospital by ambulance, and then transferred by air ambulance to Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre.
The SIU has assigned three investigators and one forensic investigator to investigate this matter.
The SIU has designated one officer as a subject officer and twelve officers as witness officers. Eleven civilian witnesses have been identified.
