U.S. Consumer Discretionary Sector of the Russell 3000 Index Outperforms Broad Market (as Defined by the Russell 3000 Index) in 9 of Last 12 Months
(firmenpresse) - SEATTLE, WA -- (Marketwire) -- 09/15/11 -- Despite reflecting negative monthly returns from May 2011 to August 2011, the U.S. Consumer Discretionary sector outperformed the broad equity market (as defined by the Russell 3000® Index), in 9 of the last 12 months and has outperformed for the month of September (through September 13th).
For the month of September through 9/13, the Russell 3000 Index has reflected a loss of (-3.7%), underperforming its U.S Consumer Discretionary Sector and its retail sub-sectors, US Diversified Retail and US Specialty Retail.
The Consumer Discretionary sector of the Russell 3000 Index produced the highest monthly performance during September 2010 with an 11.8% return and the worst performance of (-5.7%) during August 2011.
The two retail subsectors of the U.S. Consumer Discretionary sector, U.S. Diversified retail and U.S. Specialty retail, had the highest monthly performance during September 2010 with 12.3% and 15.4% respectively. Diversified retail had the worst monthly performance of (-2.3%) in January 2011 and for Specialty Retail, -5.2% in August 2011.
