San Jose BioCenter Debuts Concept Lab
Award-Winning Facility Launches New Program to Support Early Stage Life Science and Cleantech Innovations
(firmenpresse) - SAN JOSE, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 09/15/11 -- Melinda Richter, executive director of San Jose BioCenter, announced today the addition of the BioCenter Concept Lab, a new low-cost lab offering early stage companies affordable access to the world-renowned San Jose BioCenter, located at 5941 Optical Court in San Jose.
For $500 per month, entrepreneurs can now work on their proof of concept within the "Concept Lab." The BioCenter Concept Lab will be equipped with a fume hood, bench space, centralized gas/vacuum/RODI water, storage, emergency power, emergency shower/eyewash and high speed internet. The companies within the BioCenter Concept Lab will also get access to more than $5 million worth of common equipment in the core research areas.
"The San Jose BioCenter continues to fuel innovation by playing an integral role in the creation and growth of new health and energy companies," said Richter. "With the BioCenter Concept Lab, we want to fill the innovation spectrum -- from idea to commercialization. This new offering will provide a cost effective, value-added entry point for life science and cleantech entrepreneurs seeking to prove out their concept. We want to leverage our existing infrastructure, equipment and resources to help ease cash flow concerns common to early stage companies," said Richter.
In addition to premier lab facilities, the BioCenter Concept Lab will also provide a range of operations and business services, from front office, equipment and EH&S management to pro bono legal office hours and introductions to key corporate partners and targeted investors.
"We want BioCenter Concept Lab residents to focus aggressively on their proof-of-concept while we facilitate key business and operations concerns," Richter said. "With early stage capital dissipating, we wanted to provide an affordable yet comprehensive option that keeps Silicon Valley's talent innovating, particularly in these important industries that touch our lives in a very personal way."
Through the San Jose BioCenter's extensive network, the Concept Lab will be able to provide entrepreneurs interaction with funders and others who help ventures build capital, exposure, partnerships and in-kind resources needed to grow their business to the next level.
