Basement Waterproofing: Internal and External Solutions

Basement Waterproofing: Internal and External Solutions

ID: 674587

Internal and external are the best solutions when it comes to basement waterproofing. New Jersey experts introduce you to the differences and benefits of each.

(firmenpresse) - Whether or not you’ve noticed signs of water in your NJ property, if it has a basement, then you should seriously consider basement waterproofing. New Jersey has many reputable experts with a wealth of understanding of these types of issues, so ensuring that your home is kept warm and dry won’t be a problem. However, figuring out where to start can be confusing. Nowadays, there are several local approaches to basement waterproofing. New Jersey contractors will be able to assess your site and advise you. But it’s always best to go into such interventions with a little background knowledge.
Here we have an overview of the two most common and effective kinds of waterproofing: internal and external solutions. While the differences sound obvious - and straightforward - each has its complications. This introduction will help you decide which solution might be the best choice for you.
Internal Waterproofing
As the name suggests, the installation for this approach is carried out almost entirely inside and, unlike the alternative, its design does not intend to keep the water out of the basement. Rather, it will keep the interior dry by diverting water away or managing the seepage. The benefits of this approach are that it is a lot less invasive, is quicker to execute and usually cheaper.
It works by removing the groundwater before it hits the property floor and almost always will involve a sump pump. A small trench at the base of the walls will be installed along with weeping tiles, these features will help water to collect and then be expelled by the sump pump. But don’t worry, that doesn’t mean that the room will be damp! A waterproof membrane is installed over the wall’s surface to prevent vapour from seeping into the cavity.
External Waterproofing
While the external method takes a bit more work and is a little more time-intensive, it’s also a very effective solution. Since all water issues come from the outside, the best way to resolve the problem is to seal your property off from the local external elements, which is why this is a popular approach. The process involves special machinery and expert knowledge of basement waterproofing. New Jersey contractors will be able to advise you on the best place to start and will ensure that you get the results that you’re looking for.

Since it involves the full excavation of soil surrounding the property foundations, it is a bit more complicated (and expensive). However, it is 100% effective. Once the excavation is complete, a waterproof sealant is applied to the external walls to prevent any water from entering the home. Usually, a weeping tile system is used on top of this to manage any moisture in the soil from attempting to enter the foundations.
Whichever method you feel is best for your property, it’s highly recommended that you seek out professional advice from contractors who know the local conditions and building practices. Basement waterproofing (New Jersey specialists will testify) is not a quick DIY job. In order to keep your home safe and dry, do your research, and chat with your local contractor, your water problems will be resolved in no time!
